It is a basic start of getting into knowing more about colour. We will talk about colour, how to combine it, what is its value. We look at some  important books of Johannes Itteen (Swiss expresionist) and Josef Albers (American abstract painter of German origin). The students will work in paper, water colour and fabric without using sewing machine. At the end they will get a pattern based on one of Iteen´s painting to be sewn at home.

We will do a mini boro bag, which has been really popular when taught everywhere. We will learn boro stitches from the sashiko family. The teacher will make up little kits for it using old Japanese recycled fabric (mostly cotton) for the outside of the bag with new Japanese striped "tsumugi" cotton for the lining and handles, plus thread and sashiko needle. She will include a  whole 370 m skein of fine cream sashiko thread in each kit, the cost of the kit is GBP 14. It gives the students enough thread to make several more bags, using their own scrap fabrics.
